They're one of the hottest pieces of equipment because of their low impact, running simulation, and great workout. To get the most out of your elliptical trainer, follow these simple steps

Step1
Wear comfortable exercise clothing and footwear.
Step2
Be familiar with guidelines printed on the console for adjustments and pre-programmed settings.
Step3
Place your left hand on the handrailing; then your left foot on the left foot plate. Bring your right foot and right hand onto the equipment so you're standing with both feet at the same level.
Step4
While holding on with one hand, adjust the settings on the console. On most elliptical trainers, you'll have a choice of intensity, incline, direction (forward or backwards) and stepping or elliptical movement.
Step5
Begin moving your feet by transferring your weight to one foot, then to the other.
Step6
Always hold onto the handrailings, especially if you choose to use your legs in a backwards motion.
Step7
Add variety by moving your legs in a backwards direction, increasing resistance, increasing or decreasing speed, and choosing different pre-programmed settings.
Step8
Adjust incline according to your goals--to strenghthen, increase endurance, or work a specific muscle group.
