Customer Reviews
Need Engineer for assembly
I bought this for $199. I think the price reflected the lack of ANY pre-assembly. You need an engineer to assemble it. This is the first time I have EVER had to grease the parts to assemble. In fact the grease was in a small square plastic bag (not a plastic squirt bottle) that was opened and useless. I had to get my own grease. The box instructions had a front page suggested "professional assembly" for at least $120. This unit should have had some basic factory assembly. I am a capable person and it took me 3 hours of fairly hard labor. This huge time and physical commitment needs to be considered before buying.

Difficult assembly, but works well (so far)
Assembly was more difficult than with our previous elliptical trainer. It took me about five hours. The first hour I spent removing parts from the box and checking them against the parts list. In the process I found an extra short screw, loose in the box. The only short screws on the parts list were inside the pre-assembled frame, so I was forced to remove the side shields to ensure that the extra screw had not come loose from inside. This added about 10 minutes to my work.

Assembly was considerably hampered by one serious problem: The back end of the frame was badly bent, making it impossible to attach the rear stabilizer. I don't know if this happened at the factory or during shipping. With great effort, I was finally able to straighten the bent steel with the use of a 14-inch pipe wrench. Otherwise, I would have had to send the whole thing back and reorder. I also noted that the front of the frame and the front stabilizer were angled leftward about 5-10 degrees from the rest of the frame; this does not appear to affect the functioning of the unit, however.

After assembly was complete, I tested it out. At first, the unit made a loud scraping noise, and was somewhat hard to pedal. Having removed the side shields earlier, I knew that this was because the lower end of the "C" magnet was in direct contact with the flywheel. This didn't seem right to me, but I wasn't sure. After a minute or so, however, there was a "clank" from inside, the unit became somewhat easier to pedal, and the scraping noise ceased. Evidently, the problem corrected itself.

I have used the unit for about a month now. It is fairly quiet. It does wobble slightly on my carpeted floor, but otherwise seems to be working well. Time will tell how durable the unit is.

So far, so good!
Bought It a week ago, so far so good. Nothing but good things to say at this point. It's a great workout in a short time. I'd be surprised if anyone who hasn't been excercising regularly can do more than 10 minutes on this machine.

As far as durability and reliability goes, you get what you pay for. Any elliptical under 500 dollars is not likely to have great construction, however, if you monitor it's performance and do the proper maintenance at the first sign of a problem (strange sound or odd performance) then it will last you for a very long time. Just like with a car, if you ignore these signs, you will just aggravate the problem and break something.

I will update this review as time goes by, but I am confident that this machine will stay with me for a very long time.
